The Saints are in need of help in the backfield and apparently are looking at former Pro Bowl selection Kareem Hunt to possibly fill that void.
Hunt is making a free-agent visit to New Orleans while the team continues to shop for tailbacks, according to ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler.
Alvin Kamara will be out to start the year while serving a three-game suspension, and Eno Benjamin will miss the year after suffering a torn Achilles tendon last week, making the Saints serious buyers at the position. ESPN’s Dianna Russini confirmed the report and added that the team also is working out former Vikings and Cowboys linebacker Anthony Barr.
Hunt remains unsigned after playing for the Browns the past four seasons. He rushed for 468 yards and three touchdowns while backing up star tailback Nick Chubb in 2022. Hunt hasn’t been able to revisit the same level of production he had in 2017 as a rookie with the Chiefs, when he tallied a league-leading 1,327 yards on the ground, but the Saints could use all the help they can get while waiting for Kamara’s return.
Jamaal Williams, signed away from the Lions in March, will likely start until then. The Saints are scheduled to play the Titans to start the regular season on Sept. 10.
