Report: Rockets looking for ‘franchise centerpiece’ player, could be active at trade deadline

The Feburary 10 trade deadline is only a few weeks away, and while Eric Gordon’s name has been included in myriad trade rumors, a new report from The Athletic suggests that the Rockets could be open to even bigger moves as the organization targets a “franchise centerpiece” type of player.

According to the trio of Sam Amick, David Aldridge and John Hollinger, the Rockets are expected to be active at the deadline, and could be “even more open for business” than initially expected.

Via The Athletic:

“As for sellers, keep an eye on Houston as we get closer to the deadline. There’s lots of chatter about the Rockets being even more open for business than we may have previously thought, with one rival executive indicating that Houston is still on the lookout for a franchise centerpiece-worthy player and thus open to all sorts of possibilities (translation: While Jalen Green is seen as a big part of their future, Harden’s old spot has yet to be truly filled).”
