Report: Ravens Expected to Make Willie Taggart New RB Coach

The Ravens are expected to add former FAU coach Willie Taggart to John Harbaugh’s staff as their new running backs coach, according to NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero. Taggart, a longtime college coach, has never held a position in the NFL.

Taggart once served as the Stanford running backs coach from 2007 to ’09 and served under Harbaugh’s brother, Jim. After Stanford, Taggart got his first head coaching job at Western Kentucky before moving on to South Florida, Oregon, Florida State and eventually FAU.

He was fired from the Owls during this past season after a 32–31 overtime loss to Western Kentucky, knocking his record down to 5–7 on the year. As a coach, he has a 71–80 record all-time.

Last season, Baltimore was second in the NFL in rushing yards (2,740) largely thanks to quarterback Lamar Jackson’s team-leading 764 yards on the ground. Starting tailback JK Dobbins missed a majority of the season due to a knee injury, so Taggart will look to get Dobbins and the running back room back on track in 2023.
