This is something to monitor: NewOrleans.Football’s Brooke Kirchhofer and Nick Underhill report that second-year wide receiver Rashid Shaheed will be out for several weeks recovering from a groin muscle injury. He’ll likely be sidelined for most of the Saints preseason games, but Underhill adds that there are “No concerns for Week 1.”
So fans should expect to see Shaheed (wearing his new jersey number) when the Saints open the regular season against the Tennessee Titans on Sept. 10. They just won’t get to see him in the upcoming exhibition games, which was also the case last year as he finished recovering from a torn ACL suffered in college. A groin injury also prompted the Saints to take him out of minicamp practices earlier this year.
Shaheed immediately broke out as one of the team’s exciting young playmakers last season, maybe helped by a lack of film for opponents to study. Maybe that’s a silver lining to look for this time around, too.
