Report: Raptors Waive ‘Hustle’ Movie Star Juancho Hernangómez

Juancho Hernangómez's tenure with the Raptors came to an end on Tuesday, as the organization reportedly waived the 27-year-old, according to Shams Charania.

Hernangómez signed with Toronto during the summer, shortly after the release of the Netflix movie Hustle, in which he played one of the leads, Bo Cruz, alongside Adam Sandler, who plays an NBA scout.

Hernangómez featured in 42 games for the Raptors this season, averaging 14.6 minutes per game, but found himself out of Nick Nurse's rotation of late. The big man was a healthy scratch in five of Toronto's last six games before being waived at the end of February.

In his limited action this year, Hernangómez averaged 2.9 points and 2.9 rebounds per game, while shooting 42.1% from the field. A journeyman throughout his career, the Spaniard will now be looking to latch on with his seventh team in as many years.

Hernangómez spent four seasons with the Nuggets from 2016 to ’20, but has bounced around the league since, having featured for the Timberwolves, Raptors, Celtics, Jazz, and Spurs, but ultimately failing to find a long-term home in the NBA.

Toronto's decision to waive Hernangómez opened up a roster spot, which they quickly acted upon. In a separate move on Tuesday, the Raptors signed veteran guard Will Barton, who recently had his contract bought out by the Wizards, per Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN
