During the NFL Combine last week, Tennessee Titans general manager Ran Carthon said nobody had called him to inquire about the No. 7 pick in the 2024 NFL draft.
Well, it appears at least one team might be calling soon, if it hasn’t done so already.
The Athletic’s Vic Tafur and Tashan Reed reported that the Las Vegas Raiders have explored trading up for Tennessee’s first-round selection, although the extent of that exploration has not been revealed.
But the Titans aren’t the only team the Raiders have explored trading with, as Tafur and Reed list the Los Angeles Chargers (No. 5 pick) and the New York Giants (No. 6 pick) as other targets for a trade up from No. 13 overall.
Telesco has also had conversations centered on potentially trading for picks in the 5 to 7 range, which are owned by the Los Angeles Chargers (pick No. 5), New York Giants (No. 6) and Tennessee Titans (No. 7). That type of trade could be made to put the Raiders in range for another trade up later or a player at another premium position, but it mostly makes sense if it’s a move up for a quarterback like Michigan’s J.J. McCarthy.
While I think trading back is a possibility, I can’t see the Titans doing it if one of Joe Alt, Malik Nabers or Rome Odunze is on the board. Same goes for Marvin Harrison Jr., but I don’t think there’s any shot he makes it to No. 7.
If all four are off the board, then by all means the Titans should seriously consider trading back since there wouldn’t be another left tackle or wide receiver worth taking in that spot.
Such a deal would likely net the Titans at least an extra Day 2 pick, something the team only has one of currently. And, at No. 13 overall, Tennessee could still come away with Penn State’s Olu Fashanu.
