Report: Pro Bowl RB Dalvin Cook in talks to visit with Patriots

Dalvin Cook joining the New England Patriots has seemingly been just talk up until this point, but on Monday, ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler reported the two sides are holding discussions about a possible meeting.

The Patriots have officially joined the Cook sweepstakes.

But they aren’t the only AFC East team interested in signing the four-time Pro Bowler. The former Minnesota Vikings running back is expected to meet with the New York Jets, and assuming he doesn’t sign with them, he could then explore his options with the Patriots.

The Jets have been pretty aggressive in snagging up whatever offensive talent they can find to give their team a legitimate shot at pursuing a Super Bowl. New England, on the other hand, hasn’t been nearly as aggressive on the offensive side of the ball.

They never upped their offer to beat out the Tennessee Titans for five-time All-Pro wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins, and they’ve opted to fill their vacant right tackle position with 34-year-old Riley Reiff.

Cook is a versatile playmaker that would instantly give the Patriots the most formidable running back room in the league. Offensive coordinator Bill O’Brien could create all kinds of mismatches with Cook and Rhamondre Stevenson on the same roster.

But playing football with legendary quarterback Aaron Rodgers on a burgeoning Jets team will be hard to pass up.
