Running back help is on the way, but it isn’t coming from Ezekiel Elliott, Dalvin Cook or Leonard Fournette. Late Friday night, KPRC 2’s Aaron Wilson reported the Patriots had signed two-time USFL champion running back C.J. Marable to a deal.
Per Wilson, the Patriots had Marable in for a workout, and things went well enough for the team to move towards signing him.
After cutting James Robinson and Ty Montgomery going down with an injury, the running back room has looked increasingly thin for New England. Rhamondre Stevenson’s reps have obviously been reduced throughout training camp to limit the miles on his body before the start of the regular season.
#Patriots are signing champion @USFLStallions running back C.J. Marable following a successful workout, per a league source. Marable is a two-time league champion who has a previous stint with the #Bears and played collegiately at Presbyterian and Coastal Carolina @KPRC2

Marable rushed for 525 yards and three touchdowns last season with the Birmingham Stallions. He also put up 235 receiving yards and two touchdowns to show off his versatility.
His arrival means the Patriots will have to make room for a roster spot. So a corresponding move should be announced soon.
