Report: Patriots Signing Homegrown Pass-Rusher, Two-Time Super Bowl Champion

The Patriots are signing one of their former star players and Super Bowl champions, Trey Flowers, after a recent workout with the team, according to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport. It’s unclear how much the deal is worth at this time.

Flowers was drafted by New England out of Arkansas back in 2015 and blossomed into a pivotal piece of the Patriots dynasty during the team’s Super Bowl runs in 2016 and 2018. After his team’s Super Bowl LIII win over the Rams, he cashed in and signed a big $90 million deal with the Lions that offseason.

Unfortunately, he has struggled to stay healthy ever since and hasn’t been able to reach consistent output away from New England. Detroit released him ahead of the 2022 season and he briefly played for the Dolphins this past year. He’s played in just 18 games in the last three years but now he gets a chance to suit up again for the franchise where it all started.

Over his eight-year career, Flowers has tallied 31.5 sacks, 265 tackles, 37 tackles for loss and 87 quarterback hits.
