The New England Patriots signed defensive end Chris McCarroll on Tuesday afternoon, per KPRC 2’s Aaron Wilson.
McCarroll brings an impressive resume to New England. He was an All-American and Defensive Lineman of the Year award winner at Grand Valley State University. McCarroll had 151 career tackles, 15 sacks and three fumble recoveries during his collegiate career.
The Patriots are continuing their search for depth on the defensive side of the ball. A talented player like McCarroll could provide a pass-rushing presence for the team after they traded four-time Pro Bowler Matthew Judon last week.
The team is also missing star defensive tackle Christian Barmore.

It remains to be seen if McCarroll will be an impact player or more of a training camp filler.
Nevertheless, it’s clear the Patriots want to address the depth along the defensive front. McCarroll won’t have long to get up to speed with the preseason finale scheduled for Sunday against the Washington Commanders.
