The New England Patriots are reportedly bringing back a familiar face to their running back room. Per ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler, Deshaun Fenwick is re-signing with the Patriots after being waived in early August.
Fenwick is an undrafted rookie from Oregon State looking for an opportunity to stick on a roster at the next level. He’ll be facing an uphill battle in New England with Rhamondre Stevenson, Antonio Gibson and Kevin Harris currently positioned as New England’s top-three running back options.
However, he could impress the team enough in training camp and preseason games to earn a practice squad opportunity, if he fails to outright win a roster spot.

The Patriots are lacking in depth at the running back position, especially if this ends up being another injury-plagued year for Stevenson.
This could be their way of building a pipeline of young talent that would be ready to go if they needed to use the emergency glass option.
