The New England Patriots reportedly inquired about San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk, per NFL insider Josina Anderson. This report comes on the heels of Aiyuk’s reported trade request on Tuesday.
According to Anderson, the Patriots were informed that Aiyuk wasn’t being traded at this time.
ESPN’s Adam Schefter also reported teams had reached out to the 49ers and inquired about Aiyuk’s availability and were told he wasn’t being traded.
Aiyuk would be a tremendous pick-up for New England. It would give them a dynamic top-receiving threat on offense. He is coming off a career-high season with 1,342 receiving yards and seven touchdowns.
The Patriots could use Aiyuk as a No.1 receiver, which is something they have not had in quite some time. The wideout would immediately ignite the offense.
It would be seen as an aggressive move by the Patriots organization to go out and add even more firepower around rookie quarterback Drake Maye.
I’m told within the last couple of weeks the #Patriots reached out to the #49ers inquiring about WR Brandon Aiyuk again and were told the talented wide receiver was not being traded at the time, per source. pic.twitter.com/QhSmCBm7fW

It might seem far-fetched to envision Aiyuk coming to New England, but the 26-year-old veteran’s trade availability is certainly worth monitoring. The Patriots have the resources to swing a deal with San Francisco, if they really want it.
