Say goodbye to all of the Mac Jones trade rumors.
NBC Sports Boston’s Tom Curran took some of the drama out of the air leading into the 2023 NFL draft by reporting the New England Patriots will not be trading Jones in the first round on Thursday night.
“After speaking with people today, I’ve said previously that over Robert Kraft’s dead body would Mac Jones be traded,” said Curran. “We could probably also include Bill Belichick. I was told today that Bill Belichick does not want to trade Mac Jones. Robert Kraft, we already know, does not want to trade Mac Jones. The Patriots will not be trading Mac Jones in the first round of the 2023 NFL draft. Mac Jones will be here, and the Patriots will not draft a quarterback.”

The most notable part of Curran’s report is the fact that Belichick doesn’t want to trade Jones.
There have been reports that the two sides weren’t necessarily seeing eye-to-eye behind the scenes after Jones allegedly sought outside help for the struggling Patriots from Alabama coaches.
Keeping Jones on the roster makes sense considering the coaching inexperience he was subjected to in the 2022 season with Matt Patricia overseeing the offense. Before that year, Jones was an NFL Pro Bowler as a rookie.
The hope now is that the Patriots can move forward with Jones under center and more offensive weapons that can actually help him win games.
