Report: Patriots add WR to boost practice squad depth

The New England Patriots reportedly signed wide receiver Mathew Sexton to the practice squad. The Boston Herald’s Doug Kyed reported the news on Wednesday.

Sexton has spent time with the Kansas City Chiefs and Pittsburgh Steelers. He most recently was a member of the Atlanta Falcons.

Sexton played four seasons at Eastern Michigan and appeared in 45 games. He tallied 100 catches for 1,335 yards and nine touchdowns. Sexton could be viewed as a depth piece. The Patriots’ best receiver, Demario Douglas, missed Wednesday’s practice due to a head injury he suffered at the end of Sunday’s game against the New York Giants.

The receiver position has been a revolving door of players coming and going this year with injuries. This is a real opportunity for a player like Sexton to show his value and stick around for a team basically looking for anything that works at this point.
