The Carolina Panthers do, in fact, seem interested in adding some firepower to their wideout room. But they may be only interested at a certain price.
As reported by CBS Sports lead NFL insider Jonathan Jones on Sunday morning, the Panthers are balking at the idea of parting with any more high-end draft picks in a potential trade for a new receiver. Jones writes:
Buy Panthers TicketsDespite reports last week the Panthers would be active in the trade market, sources tell CBS Sports the Panthers have little to no interest in trading legitimate draft capital away. Carolina doesn’t have its first-round pick in 2024 and only owns its second-round pick next year. Winless teams rarely make deals for players at the deadline, and a source said it’d have to be a “phenomenal” offer for Carolina to consider a deal at all.
Rumors of their interest in a starting-caliber pass catcher emanated last Sunday, when NFL Network insider Ian Rapoport noted that the Panthers were “actively” in the trade market. The whispers got louder soon after, with fellow insider Jordan Schultz reporting that general manager Scott Fitterer had been on the phone “every single day” in pursuit of a top-tier weapon.
But with those top-tier weapons presumably carrying some top-tier price tags, Carolina—who already sent away two first-rounders, two second-rounders and No. 1 receiver DJ Moore for the top pick this spring—might not have the ammunition to pull the trigger on a meaningful deal.
