Report: Panthers ‘actively’ in trade market for starting WR

The Carolina Panthers spent much of this past offseason trying to build a nest for whomever they landed under center. Well, rookie Bryce Young was the one who settled in, and it’s clear—even through three weeks—that the nest isn’t entirely stable.

With the wideout position being a bit foul at the moment, the Panthers have reportedly been active in the trade market. According to NFL Network insider Ian Rapoport, the team has already contacted several teams about a possible deal for a starting receiver.

Carolina’s pass catchers were amongst the least explosive during Young’s first two starts. In addition to having trouble gaining separation on routes, the offense was one of only two units in the NFL not to record a passing play of at least 25 yards in Weeks 1 and 2.

Rapoport goes on to note that the loss of starting safety Xavier Woods, who is expected to miss some time with a hamstring injury, may also spark a move for the secondary. He writes:

Even though they have started the season 0-3, the Panthers have not signaled to other teams that they are interested in trading away players for draft picks, sources say. To be sure, it’s a bit early in the year for most trades, as teams are still figuring themselves out after the first month of the season and a full month before the league’s trade deadline on Oct. 31.
