Report: OKC Thunder decline Lindy Waters III’s team option

The Oklahoma City Thunder created a roster spot on Thursday, as they declined Lindy Waters III’s $1.9 million team option, per cap expert Keith Smith. The Thunder had until the end of the day June 29 to decide on the option.

The move makes Waters III a free agent after spending the previous two seasons with the Thunder under a two-way deal prior to being converted to a standard NBA deal in February.

In two seasons with the Thunder, Waters III averaged 6.3 points on 39.9% shooting and 2.2 rebounds. He also shot 36% from 3 on 4.7 attempts.

Considering his 3-point shooting abilities, Waters III should attract a market as a cheap bench option. If not, he could likely join a team’s G League affiliate or perhaps go overseas.

The move trims OKC’s roster to 15 players on standard deals.
