Tuesday may end up being just another deal-less day for Brian Burns and the Carolina Panthers.
According to FOX 26 Houston’s Will Kunkel (formerly of FOX Charlotte), the two sides have not made progress towards a contract extension on Tuesday. The two-time Pro Bowl pass rusher, who has been seeking a new pact this offseason, sat out part of this past Thursday’s practice as well as Monday’s walkthrough session.
Buy Panthers TicketsI'm told there hasn't been progress in contract negotiations today between the Panthers and Brian Burns.
His status for Sunday vs the Falcons remains in question.— Will Kunkel (@WillKunkelFOX) September 5, 2023
Burns’ absences have raised questions about his availability for Carolina’s season opener against the Atlanta Falcons, which takes place on Sunday. The string of practices leading up to the Week 1 matchup begin tomorrow, a day in which longtime Panthers linebacker Shaq Thompson expects to see something done.
“Everybody upstairs better know he [Burns] better be out there by Wednesday,” Thompson said on Monday. “He’s a big factor on the defense. He’s the one it really starts with. Him and Derrick [Brown]—there’s where it starts with. And they’ll make it right.”
