Report: Mike Vrabel expected to have ‘significant power’ after Jon Robinson firing

With the Tennessee Titans firing general manager Jon Robinson on Tuesday, the team will reportedly give head coach Mike Vrabel more power moving forward.

Despite the Titans naming vice president of player personnel Ryan Cowden the acting general manager for the rest of the season, Vrabel is expected to have “significant power” when it comes to personnel decisions, per Aaron Wilson of KPRC2.

Where Vrabel and the Titans go from here remains to be seen, but with the Titans head coach having more say now that Robinson is gone, one move we wouldn’t expect to see is the firing of offensive coordinator Todd Downing.

Vrabel is fiercely loyal to his own guys, and his increased power means it’s far less likely that Downing will get the boot, at least for the rest of this season.

With Robinson getting the boot first, clearly the Titans think their issues on offense are more personnel-related than anything else, even though Downing is definitely guilty of hindering the unit with his play-calling.

As far as Cowden is concerned, one would assume he’ll have a great shot to take the job officially in 2023, as it might be tough to make an outside hire with Vrabel assuming a bigger role.
