Report: Matt Ryan, Carson Wentz Made the Saddest Calls to the Jets

When Aaron Rodgers tore his Achilles in the Jets’ first game of the season, fans began proposing other veteran quarterbacks who New York could add to back up new starter Zach Wilson.

Now in Week 3, the Jets have yet to sign another quarterback to their squad, but reports continue to come out about possible quarterbacks the team has communicated with.

Fox Sports’ Jay Glazer reported on Sunday that inactive quarterbacks Carson Wentz and Matt Ryan both reached out to the Jets, but the team declined on both fronts. Coach Robert Saleh continues to express confidence in Wilson amid these reports.

Wentz and Ryan have both not retired, but also remain unsigned. Wentz was designated the Commanders’ starter last year, but only held that role for seven games. Ryan started in 12 games for the Colts last season. This year, Ryan is working as an NFL analyst for CBS and specifically emphasized that he isn’t retired.

There are various other quarterbacks, retired and inactive like Wentz and Ryan, whose names have been thrown around in the Jets conversation. Some of the players reportedly include Tom Brady, Ben Roethlisberger, Colin Kaepernick, Robert Griffin III and Chad Henne.
