There is a new addition to the Detroit Lions secondary. Per Ian Rapoport of NFL.com, the Lions have agreed to sign free agent safety DeShon Elliott to a one-year contract.
Elliott was earlier noted to be on a visit to Detroit. He was the subject of Lions’ speculation earlier in free agency but had not been very visible in the free agency market.
The 24-year-old played his first three NFL seasons with the Baltimore Ravens. Elliott was a sixth-round pick out of Texas in the 2018 NFL draft. He started all 16 games for the Ravens in 2020 and the six in 2021 before a chest and biceps injury ended his season. He also missed his entire rookie season of 2018 and all but six games in 2019 with injuries.
When he’s been on the field, Elliott has played well. He registered 80 tackles and 2.5 sacks in his one fully healthy season. The 6-1, 210-pounder can play either safety spot.
