Once official, new Jacksonville Jaguars’ head coach Liam Coen will not only be tasked with maximizing Trevor Lawrence’s abilities as he looks to turn this franchise around, but Coen will also play a role in the team’s search for their next general manager.
According to Fox NFL insider Jordan Schultz, Coen will have a “real say” in the process that the Jaguars are about to undertake in their general manager search.
Schultz would add that owner Shad Khan wanted to fill the head coaching role first. The thought process behind this was that Coen’s presence would help attract “the type of GM Jacksonville needs to help build a championship caliber team,” as Schultz put it.
With Coen and the general manager working together, they can best construct the roster with players and skill sets that suit what Coen needs on offense.
At this time, there haven’t been any reports on who the Jaguars might bring in for general manager interviews.
A popular name was John Spytek, who worked in Tampa Bay with Coen. But according to Tom Pelissero, Spytek has now officially signed his contract to become the Las Vegas Raiders next general manager.
Recently, I highlighted one potential candidate who has been on the radar of each of the other three teams this offseason that have been in search of a new general manager.
