Report: Liam Coen considered ‘serious candidate’ for Bears OC job

The Chicago Bears are in the middle of their search for a new offensive coordinator to replace Luke Getsy, who was fired after two seasons.

So far, the Bears have interviewed or plan to interview four candidates for the vacancy: Seattle Seahawks offensive coordinator Shane Waldron, San Francisco 49ers passing game coordinator Klint Kubiak, Kentucky offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach Liam Coen and Seahawks quarterbacks coach Greg Olson.

But according to KSR’s Matt Jones, it sounds like Coen is emerging as a “serious candidate” for the Bears’ offensive coordinator opening. And it sounds like he might have his pick between staying in college or making a return to the NFL level.

According to Jones, Coen indicated he wouldn’t serve another one-and-done stint with Kentucky. This season, Coen returned to Kentucky for a second stint as offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach at Kentucky, a role he previously served in 2021, before taking the offensive coordinator job with the Los Angeles Rams in 2022.

But it sounds like there’s some tension between Coen and Kentucky head coach Mark Stoops, per Jones, which might have prompted Coen searching for a potential new job.
