Dolphins standout rookie running back De’Von Achane is expected to miss multiple weeks due to a knee injury suffered in Sunday’s win over the Giants, according to a report from ESPN’s Adam Schefter.
Schefter added that Achane could end up being placed on injured reserve if further evaluations determine that he will miss a significant amount of time. NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero and Ian Rapoport added that the injury to Achane’s knee is not expected to be season-ending.
The injury to Achane should open up more carries for Raheem Mostert, while Jeff Wilson Jr. will also be expected to contribute once he returns from his own IR stint.
Achane, who was a third-round pick out of Texas A&M last April, has burst onto the scene and has quickly become one of the league’s most explosive running backs in Miami’s high-flying offense.
Prior to leaving Sunday’s game, Achane tallied 11 carries for 151 yards and a touchdown, marking the third straight 100+ yard rushing game for the rookie. He has carried the ball 38 times for 460 yards and five touchdowns this season, while averaging 12.1 yards per attempt.
The Dolphins are 4–1 on the season and host the Panthers on Sunday at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami.
