The 2024 NBA Draft is almost here, and many will be paying attention to what the Los Angeles Lakers may or may not do during the draft.
There have been plenty of rumors that the Lakers will at least try to execute a big trade that could catapult them back into championship contention. Many of those rumors have centered around a star or borderline star guard, and Donovan Mitchell, Dejounte Murray, Darius Garland and Collin Sexton are targets that have been mentioned.
Another big potential trade target for Los Angeles is the Atlanta Hawks’ Trae Young. According to league sources, the Purple and Gold would be an appealing destination for the three-time All-Star.
Via Yahoo Sports:
“The Hawks, of course, are expected to engage rival teams on trade scenarios for both Trae Young and Dejounte Murray throughout this offseason,” wrote Jake Fischer. “The Lakers, [New Orleans] Pelicans and [San Antonio] Spurs remain three destinations that would be appealing to Young, league sources told Yahoo Sports, and teams in the lottery are not discounting the possibility the Spurs could engineer a move up to the top slot, which could open the door for Atlanta possibly selecting [Donovan] Clingan at No. 4.”
Young seems to be a polarizing prospect among Lakers fans because of his low shooting percentages and high turnover rate. But he is a big-time scoring threat who has a career average of 25.5 points a game, and this season he also dished off 10.8 assists per game.
Several weeks ago, it was reported that internally, the Lakers “could be split” on whether to go after him via trade.
