Report: Jets Attempted to Trade for Two Elite Wide Receivers Ahead of Tuesday’s Deadline

As the Jets continue to hover around playoff contention in the absence of Aaron Rodgers, New York made a push to acquire wide receiver Mike Evans from the Buccaneers and wide receiver Davante Adams from the Raiders ahead of Tuesday’s trade deadline, according to a report from Brian Costello of the New York Post.

Ultimately, the Jets stood pat at the deadline, but it wasn’t for a lack of trying.

Jets general manager Joe Douglas’s inquired about both big-name pass catchers, but the respective teams were unwilling to trade them.

Costello also noted that Douglas was also looking to add offensive line help at the deadline, but came up empty there as well.

While Douglas didn’t address Costello’s report directly when speaking with the media on Tuesday afternoon, he did confirm that the Jets were active in trying to improve the roster.

“There need to be buyers. There need to be sellers,” Douglas said. “We made a lot of inquiries and had a lot of discussions about a lot of different positions but ultimately didn’t get any other deals done. That’s where we are.”

New York is 4-3 on the season. They host the Chargers on Monday night.
