Report: Jets attempted to trade for Davante Adams at deadline

The New York Jets nearly made a huge impact at the wide receiver position before the trade deadline. Per Adam Schefter of ESPN, the team attempted to acquire wide receiver Davante Adams from the Las Vegas Raiders.

The move was in part to reunite Adams with quarterback Aaron Rodgers. Certainly, it would have also vastly improved the position group to have Adams, Garrett Wilson and Allen Lazard (who also would have reunited with Adams).

Per Schefter, the Jets had been planning this move since the summer and we’re waiting for the right time to struck.

But the Raiders, less than a day removed from a Monday night loss to the Lions and just hours before firing coach Josh McDaniels and general manager Dave Ziegler, told the Jets they were not interested in trading Adams, just as another source had said earlier Tuesday that there “was no chance in hell” that Las Vegas would trade away the six-time Pro Bowler.

The Jets tried to make a move in general at the deadline, according to general manager Joe Douglas, but ultimately did not make any deals before Tuesday’s deadline.

“We made a lot of calls on a lot of different positions,” Douglas told reporters earlier this week. “But it takes two to tango. We made a lot of calls, but we didn’t get a lot of deals done.”

Schefter also noted that the Jets also discussed the possibility of adding Buccaneers wide receiver Mike Evans this summer, particularly during their joint practices. The Buccaneers were unwilling to deal Evans, who is set to become a free agent after the season.

The Jets will still see Adams, but he will still be wearing silver and black. The Jets head to Las Vegas in Week 10 for a Sunday night game following their Monday night appearance this week against the Los Angeles Chargers.
