Jerami Grant has agreed to a five-year, $160 million deal to return to the Trail Blazers, according to The Athletic’s Shams Charania.
Jake Fischer of Yahoo Sports also reported that Grant’s fifth year in the new deal served as a main reason why he was unable to secure an extension with the franchise before free agency. Now, Grant’s re-signing with Portland is one of many moves the franchise hopes will keep star Damian Lillard in a Trail Blazers’ uniform next season.
Last season, Grant provided Portland with a solid defense and averaged 20.5 points per game while shooting 47.5% from the floor and a career-high 40.1% from three-point range. He also averaged 4.5 rebounds and 2.4 assists per game.
The former second-round pick in the 2014 NBA draft joined the Trail Blazers in July 2022 in a trade with the Pistons in exchange for a first-round pick and two second-round picks.
While Grant will remain in Portland, his new deal serves as the team’s earliest free agency step in its hopes to retain Lillard.
