With the Minnesota Vikings reeling with a 1-4 start, talks about them selling at the trade deadline are going to be coming more and more.
According to SKOR North’s Darren Wolfson, the Jacksonville Jaguars have all sorts of interest in edge rusher Danielle Hunter.
“I know this. Jacksonville has all sorts of interest in Danielle Hunter,” Wolfson said. “What are they willing to offer? Can you complete that trade?”
Hunter is going to be the main trade target. This offseason, he signed a modified contract, guaranteeing him $17 million with a maximum value of $20 million.
More importantly, Hunter has a no-tag clause that prevents the Vikings from placing either the franchise or transition tag on him this offseason. Barring an extension, Hunter will hit the open market at just 29 years old going into his 10th season in the NFL.
What could the Jaguars offer the Vikings for him? It’s complicated due to the Calvin Ridley trade. Right now, the Jaguars can’t trade their second, third or fourth-round picks due to them being held up by the Calvin Ridley trade. They could have conditions on the trade so the Vikings are guaranteed a pick in round two either in 2024 or 2025 depending on how the Ridley trade works itself out. ESPN’s Bill Barnwell had Hunter and a fifth-round pick going to the Detroit Lions for a 2024 second-round pick and a 2025 conditional third-round pick.
Buckle up Vikings fans, it’s going to be a wild ride over the next three weeks.
