The Jaguars franchise tagged tight end Evan Engram, NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reported Monday. Under the tag, which was anticipated around the league, Engram will earn $11.345 million in 2023.
After spending his first five seasons with the Giants, Engram signed with the Jaguars last offseason and enjoyed the most productive season of his career, including a career-high in receptions (73) and receiving yards (766). His four receiving touchdowns were the most since his rookie season in 2017 when he scored six times.
Engram became one of quarterback Trevor Lawrence’s favorite targets and was key to the emergence of both Lawrence and the offense as a whole.
He’s proved himself to be an important piece moving forward, and tagging Engram ensures that he won’t hit free agency and will remain with the team through at least the end of next season.
