The Jaguars have requested to interview LA Rams assistant offensive line coach Zak Kromer for Jacksonville’s offensive line coach opening, according to ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler.
As head coach Liam Coen continues to build out his coaching staff, this is now the third reported interview that the Jaguars have had for offensive line coach. The other two interviews are with San Francisco’s Cam Clemmons and Buffalo’s Austin Gund.
The Jaguars did attempt to also interview Tampa Bay’s offensive line coach Kevin Carberry and assistant offensive line coach Brain Picucci but were denied by the Bucs.
Kromer has spent the last eight seasons with the Rams in some capacity. The last two years he’s been the assistant offensive line coach after spending two seasons as an offensive assistant.
This past season, the Rams offensive line ranked 18th in pressure rate allowed but were sixth the season before, according to Pro Football Reference. In the run game, they averaged just 4.0 yards per carry in 2024, but were 11th in that category in 2023, averaging 4.3 yards per rush that season.
Kromer is the son of current Bills’ offensive line coach Aaron Kromer.
Getting the most out of Trevor Lawrence will be at the top of Coen’s to-do list, but key factor in accomplishing that is with improved offensive line play.
Time in the pocket is crucial to any quarterback’s success, while having a consistent run game can help open up opportunities in the passing game and keep the offense out of predictable passing downs.
“I think we would all agree that it needs to improve,” said Coen of the offensive line. I think that when you look at, first and foremost, the offensive side of the ball, you want that unit and that group–it’s the first thing that when you break the huddle the defense sees,” added Coen. “I want that to mean something. We want that to mean something and it will.
“That’s a mentality, that’s personnel, that’s scheme, that’s technique, that’s fundamentals, and that’s attitude. That’s something that we need to make sure we instill.”
