The Jacksonville Jaguars continue to build out their coaching staff under Liam Coen, having now found their next quarterback coach.
According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the Jaguars are hiring Arizona Cardinals’ pass game specialist Spencer Whipple to fill that important role and work closely with Trevor Lawrence.
Whipple has been in Arizona since the 2019 season, holding various roles on the offensive side of the football, including as the assistant wide receivers coach.
Whipple has worked with quarterback Kyler Murray and head coaches Kliff Kingsbury and Jonathan Gannon during his tenure in Arizona.
This past season, the Cardinals’ passing offense ranked 18th in yards per game and 17th in yards per pass attempt. Murray put together one of his more productive seasons as well, completing 69% of his throws at 7.1 yards per attempt with 21 touchdowns to 11 interceptions.
Coen will be the Jaguars’ play-caller on offense and right now, the offensive coordinator role still has to be filled.
The key task for Coen, Whipple, and the incoming offensive coordinator will be getting Trevor Lawrence and the Jaguars’ passing game back on track.
“How do we make Trevor Lawrence and this offense as dynamic and explosive as we can be? We’ve got to build it around him, we’ve got to make every part of this about improvement, and he will be a part of that process,” Coen said during his introductory press conference.
“He’s earned that right. I cannot respect his toughness and mentality and work ethic more than I do already from afar. This will all be about Trevor.”
