Michael Irvin has filed a $100 million lawsuit against the woman who described misconduct by him last weekend, TMZ reported. In the lawsuit, Irvin claims he has been “railroaded” with the allegations, and the hotel at which he was staying came up with a plan to “cancel” him over an incident that never occurred.
Details of the woman’s specific accusation against Irvin have not been made public at the time of this publication.
Irvin was pulled off NFL Network’s Super Bowl coverage this week following the incident Sunday night at a Renaissance Hotel. The former NFL wide receiver claimed there was “absolutely was no sexual wrongdoing” and that he was “baffled” by the whole thing.
“This all happened in a 45-second conversation in the lobby,” Irvin said Wednesday about the incident. “When I got back after going out … I came into the lobby, and I talked to somebody. I talked to this girl. I don’t know her, and I talked to her for about 45 seconds. We shook hands. Then, I left. … That’s all I know.”
The lawsuit claims that Irvin provided witnesses that back his side of this story, in which he just shook hands with a hotel employee before heading up to his room. Irvin and his team claim they tried to provide the hotel witnesses for proof, but it didn’t listen.
“It is clear Michael is the latest victim of our cancel culture where all it takes is an accusation to ruin a person’s life,” Irvin’s attorney, Levi McCathern, told TMZ. “Michael looks forward to clearing his name in court and hopes the Court of public opinion will see the truth come out as well.”
According to McCarthern, Irvin’s name has been tarnished and has lost money through having to cancel media appearances this week. Irvin last appeared on NFL Network’s coverage of Super Bowl media night Monday.
