Report: Giants to sign DL Nick Williams, waive DL Jabari Ellis

The New York Giants continued their early training camp roster shuffling on Tuesday morning following a series of workouts on Monday.

Mike Garafolo of NFL Network reports that the team is expected to sign veteran defensive lineman Nick Williams, who spent the previous two seasons with the Detroit Lions.

In order to clear room for Williams, the Giants are waiving undrafted free agent defensive lineman Jabari Ellis.

The 32-year-old Williams was a seventh-round pick of the Pittsburgh Steelers in the 2013 NFL draft. The Kansas City Chiefs signed him off of the Steelers’ practice squad in 2014 and he remained with the team into 2016.

After being waived by the Chiefs, he briefly joined the Miami Dolphins and later spent two seasons with the Chicago Bears.

In 75 career games (35 starts), Williams has recorded 110 tackles, 17 QB hits, 7.5 sacks and five passes defensed. He earned a 50.3 Pro Football Focus grade last season.

In addition to Williams, the Giants are also expected to sign safety Andrew Adams.
