Report: Giants have ‘a particular interest’ in trading for WR Jerry Jeudy

The New York Giants traded wide receiver Kadarius Toney to the Kansas City Chiefs despite having significant needs at the position. That speaks volumes about what the new regime thought of Toney.

But what do the 6-1 Giants do at receiver now? They’re still strapped for cash and don’t necessarily want to give up draft assets despite acquiring two picks in the Toney trade.

It’s a precarious position to be in, especially if they want to improve the offense and keep winning.

The Giants do have wants, though. They would love to add a wide receiver before the NFL’s trade deadline, and Ralph Vacchiano of Fox Sports reports they have a very specific interest. The issue, of course, is the ability to make a move happen.

But if one were to be made, Vacchiano reports it would likely be for Denver Broncos wide receiver Jerry Jeudy.

According to multiple league sources, receivers like Denver’s Jerry Jeudy, Houston’s Brandin Cooks and Carolina’s D.J. Moore could all be available. And the Giants have a particular interest in the 6-foot-1, 193-pound Jeudy, one league source said. Jeudy’s even something of a known commodity to them since he was a freshman at Alabama in 2017 when Daboll was the offensive coordinator there.

If the Giants could land a third- and sixth-round pick for Toney, the Broncos are likely to seek a greater return for Jeudy. Would general manager Joe Schoen be willing to part that high a cost? It seems unlikely.

Then there’s the financial aspect of things. The Giants have just $3.56 million in available salary cap space, and Jeudy has a cap hit of over $4.1 million this season and $4.8 million next season. That would mean kicking the can down the road on another player, and that’s not necessarily a game Schoen wants to play.

It will be interesting to see what, if anything, Schoen and the Giants do ahead of Tuesday’s trade deadline.
