Report: Georgia DT Jalen Carter no longer on the Raiders draft board

Figuring out the NFL draft destination for Georgia defensive tackle Jalen Carter remains very difficult as the draft approaches in a little under a month. Carter ended the collegiate season as perhaps the top overall prospect, but some problematic issues have cast doubt on when the talented interior lineman will be selected.

Carter’s involvement in a street racing incident that led to a fatal car crash has led to at least one team removing him from draft consideration. He will not be heading to Las Vegas, per one recent report.

According to Vic Tafur of The Athletic, Carter will not be in consideration for the Raiders with the No. 7 pick, should the Georgia DT fall that far in the draft.

But Carter is not an option for the Raiders at No. 7, having already been crossed off by the team, according to a league source.

He notes the tragic incident involving Raiders’ 2020 first-round wide receiver Henry Ruggs. The young wideout killed a passenger while driving while intoxicated at over 150 MPH and crashing in las Vegas in 2021. The Raiders subsequently released Ruggs, who continues to await trial on several serious charges.

Carter’s involvement in the December death of Georgia teammate Devin Willock and recruiting coordinator Chandler LeCroy was much less direct. He was not intoxicated, nor was Carter driving the car which crashed and caused the tragic fatalities. Carter accepted a plea that lessened his charges to probation, community service and a fine.
