Report: Former Panthers HC to interview for Bears’ opening

The winningest head coach in Carolina Panthers franchise history is reportedly getting a shot at what could be his dream job.

According to CBS Sports senior NFL insider Jonathan Jones, Ron Rivera is set to interview for the Chicago Bears’ head-coaching position.

Rivera, a former linebacker, played each of his nine NFL seasons in Chicago. He was a part of the vaunted 1985 Bears defense, which shuffled the team all the way to a dominant win in Super Bowl XX.

Five years after his final game, Rivera made the move back to the sidelines as a defensive quality control coach for the Bears in 1997. He’d later serve as their defensive coordinator beginning in 2004, helping them reach their second Super Bowl ever in 2006.

Along with the Bears, the New York Jets have also expressed interest in Rivera. They completed an interview with the 63-year-old a little over a week ago.
