Report: Former Oregon State Commit Arrested for Attempted Murder

Brandon Smith, a former Oregon State football commit, was one of four people arrested on June 7 on suspicion of attempted murder, robbery and conspiracy following a fight that broke out near a community pool in Santa Barbara, Calif., according to report by ESPN.

According to Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Office records, the fight took place on June 2, only hours after the 21-year-old announced his commitment to join the Beavers’ program. When deputies arrived at the scene, they found a 20-year-old man who was severely injured.

Currently, Smith is being held at the Santa Barbara County jail on a $2 million bond. Smith, a Chicago native, made his official visit to Corvallis in May and shared that he earned a scholarship from the program later that month. However, despite Smith’s commitment, ESPN reported that the former junior college running back never signed with the program and will not play for the team.

Smith rushed 1,231 yards and 16 touchdowns at Santa Barbara City College. Prior to his Oregon State commitment, he received offers from Fresno State, Nevada, Hawai’i and several other programs.
