Payton Thorne had been a mainstay in Michigan State’s offense for the past two and a half seasons. From a young redshirt freshman, to a solid 2021 and finishing with a subpar 2022, Spartan fans went through a rollercoaster with the signal caller from Naperville, Illinois.
The roller coaster came to an end this summer when a disconnect, and a rift between Thorne, the coaching staff and the ongoing quarterback battle, caused MSU’s signal caller to hit the transfer portal.
Now, Thorne has found a new home transferring to Auburn, a school that had been rumored to be tampering with MSU’s signal caller all offseason. After reports of some lackluster performances in the Tigers preseason scrimmages, it appears that Thorne will still be gifted the starting job for the Tigers opener against UMass, according to a report from Auburn’s On3 reporter Justin Hokanson.
