Report: Former Georgia football LB to sign with Atlanta Falcons

Former Georgia outside linebacker Lorenzo Carter announced on Sunday that he is moving on from the New York Giants after four years with the team.

One day later, Ian Rapoport of NFL.com reported that Carter is expected to sign a one year deal with the Atlanta Falcons.

A 2018 third-round draft pick, Carter, 26, will receive a fresh start in his home-state.

According to NFL Media’s Mike Garafolo, the Giants made a push to bring back Carter, who’s played in 49 games for the team. However, it was the hometown Falcons that were able to land the former Bulldog.

“It’s hard for me to even put in words how blessed I am to have been apart of the New York Football Giants family these past four years,’’ Carter posted on his Instagram account on Sunday. “Leaving home as a young man & coming to NY taught me so much about not just myself, but opened my eyes to the world as a whole and that’s something I will never forget.’’

Carter has shown flashes over the years, however, he never has developed into that elite pass rusher that we saw at Georgia.

A former five-star out of Norcross, Georgia, Carter was an athletic and scrappy pass rusher during his four years at UGA. During his time in Athens, Carter recorded 14 sacks and was a leader on the defense.

His NFL production has been rather equivalent to that of his collegiate. Carter has recorded 14.5 NFL sacks since being drafted in 2018 but has never amassed more than five in a single season.
