Could former Washington Commanders head coach Ron Rivera be back on an NFL sideline in 2025? According to Tom Pelissero of the NFL Network, Rivera will speak to the New York Jets regarding their head coaching vacancy this week.

The Jets fired head coach Robert Saleh on October 8 after a 2-3 start. New York promoted defensive coordinator Jeff Ulbrich to interim coach. The Jets are currently 4-12 with one game remaining.
Rivera was fired in January after four seasons with the Commanders. In his four years, Rivera compiled a 26-40-1 record. He led Washington to the playoffs once, in 2020, with a 7-9 record, but he never achieved a winning record in four seasons.
Before his time in Washington, Rivera was head coach of the Carolina Panthers for almost nine full seasons, finishing with a record of 76-63-1. Rivera’s best season came in 2015 when the Panthers went 15-1.
Rivera also served as the Commanders’ head of football operations, and all four of his first-round picks are no longer on the roster. Washington released another high Rivera pick on Saturday when they moved on from 2022 second-round pick Phidarian Mathis.
