Report: Former Colts coach ‘expected’ to join AFC South rival

A former member of the Indianapolis Colts’ coaching staff under Gus Bradley is “expected” to join an AFC South rival.

According to Matt Zenitz of CBS Sports, former defensive backs coach Ron Milus is expected to be hired by the Jacksonville Jaguars to fill a similar role.

Milus has an extensive background when it comes to coaching the secondary, getting his start with Washington during the 1993 season. He has been with the Colts since 2022 when Bradley was brought in.

For the second offseason in a row, GM Chris Ballard was again answering questions at his season-ending press conference about the secondary. While there was some positive strides made by a few players, the overall play and production still wasn’t good enough.

The Colts’ secondary finished the 2024 season ranked in the bottom 10 of the NFL in completion rate, passer rating, passes defensed, and yards per pass attempt.

Under new defensive coordinator Lou Anarumo, his adaptable and disguise heavy scheme can help elevate the play of the secondary, but accomplishing that will also require Ballard to make some additions to bolster the depth and add more competition.

Long-time Baltimore Raven Chris Hewitt will be the Colts new defensive backs coach with Anarumo in charge of the defense.
