Report: Eagles’ Gardner-Johnson Fined for Hit in Super Bowl

Eagles star safety C.J. Gardner-Johnson has been fined $14,111 for lowering his head to initiate contact with the helmet on Chiefs running back Isiah Pacheco in the fourth quarter of last Sunday’s Super Bowl, according to a report from NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero.

The play did not draw a penalty flag during the game. Gardner-Johnson’s agent, Kevin Conner, confirmed the fine to Pelissero and said that Gardner-Johnson plans to appeal the league’s decision.

Gardner-Johnson also confirmed the fine, and made it clear that he didn’t agree with the ruling.

“Tell me why I got fined from the hit in the Super Bowl,” he wrote on Twitter.

Here’s the video of the hit in question, which came with the game tied with less than five minutes to play.

Gardner-Johnson just finished the best season of his career, where he recorded 67 combined tackles, one sack and was tied for the NFL lead with six interceptions in just 12 games played.

The 25-year-old is set to hit free agency this spring, and will certainly command a large contract regardless of where he lands.
