James Harden has not yet received the trade he’s been angling for, but he’s reportedly optimistic that a deal can still be reached that would send him to the Clippers.
According to a report from The Athletic, the Clippers have engaged in discussions with various teams as they look to gather a collection of draft assets to match the 76ers’ valuation of the veteran guard.
“League sources say the Clippers have been talking to several teams about ways to move pick swaps for additional draft capital with the intention of bolstering their offer and getting a deal done,” wrote Sam Amick and Shams Charania on Thursday.
Harden reported to 76ers training camp on Wednesday and intends to participate in the preseason as to not be a distraction for the team, per the report.
The two sides previously engaged in trade talks regarding Harden this offseason, but failed to find common ground and bring a deal to fruition. The report indicates that Los Angeles is now “going to great lengths to make it happen.”
In July, the Clippers reportedly offered Philadelphia an unprotected first-round pick, a pick swap, and salaries to match Harden’s $35.64 million contract, but were rebuffed by Daryl Morey, who was seeking far more in exchange for the 34-year-old.
While those talks fizzled out, it seems Harden is holding out hope that a deal can transpire, despite publicly feuding with Morey during the offseason.
