Report: Darius Slayton drawing interest from Giants, Falcons

The New York Giants would like to bring wide receiver Darius Slayton back into the fold but they are facing some competition.

Art Stapleton of USA TODAY reports that the Giants have an offer in to Slayton but another team is hovering — quite possibly the Atlanta Falcons.

That seems to be confirmed by Kevin Knight of The Falcoholic, who says Atlanta has, in fact, made an offer of their own.

The wide receiver market has been slow to develop since the NFL’s legal tampering window opened on Monday with many of the top players earning lower-than-expected deals.

The 26-year-old Slayton is coming off an up-and-down season that saw him begin the year buried on the depth chart before eventually recovering his starting role. He closed things out having hauled in 46 receptions for 724 yards and two touchdowns.

Slayton’s 724 receiving yards led the team.

However, Slayton also had five drops during the regular season, which has been a lingering concern since he came out of college. He also had a key drop in the Giants’ wildcard victory over the Minnesota Vikings that nearly proved costly.

Despite the drop issues, Slayton is statistically the most productive available receiver under the age of 30.
