Report: Colts’ Isaiah Rodgers to receive season-long suspension for gambling

Indianapolis Colts cornerback Isaiah Rodgers Sr. is expected to receive a season-long suspension for violating the league’s gambling policy, as reported Wednesday by ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

Rodgers was under investigation for potential gambling violations and did not participate in the offseason workout program while media were present.

Schefter reported that Rodgers is among several players expected to be suspended for gambling violations.

According to an earlier report from ESPN’s Stephen Holder and David Purdum, Rodgers reportedly opened an account under the name of an associate.

The sportsbook account was opened under the name of an associate of Rodgers, the sources said. Approximately 100 bets were placed on the account over an undisclosed amount of time, including on Colts games, the sources said. Most of the bets were in the $25-$50 range, although there was at least one low four-figure bet.

Considering Rodgers issued an apology shortly after the news broke earlier this month, it was expected that a suspension would be likely.

With Rodgers suspended, the Colts will have to rely on a trio of rookie cornerbacks in Julius Brents, Darius Rush and Jaylon Jones along with veterans Darrell Baker Jr. and Tony Brown.
