The Indianapolis Colts are expected to hire Lou Anarumo as their new defensive coordinator, according to Ian Rapoport.
Anarumo was one of five reported interviews that the Colts held for this role after moving on from Gus Bradley.
Anarumo was the Cincinnati Bengals defensive coordinator from 2019-2024 and was let go after the regular season.
At their best under Anarumo, the Bengals ranked fifth in scoring defense during the 2022 season. During the most recent 2024 season, the Bengals’ defense ranked 25th in scoring but did finish the season strong after a slow start.
Following the decision to fire Anarumo, The Cincinnati Engquirer’s Jason Williams would call Anarumo the “scapegoat” in what had been a disappointing season for the Bengals overall.
Anarumo’s background as a coach started in the secondary, a position group that GM Chris Ballard said has to improve. We will also see a more aggressive defense under Anarumo than what we did with Bradley.
Anarumo is also known for his ability to tailor his scheme to the strengths of his defensive personnel.
