The Indianapolis Colts reportedly are targeting free-agent quarterback Gardner Minshew.
Following the official release of veteran Matt Ryan, the Colts are most likely taking a quarterback prospect with their first-round pick. However, they also are likely to bring in a veteran backup/bridge quarterback in free agency as well.
Zak Keefer of The Athletic reported Thursday that the Colts have interest in Minshew now that he’s on the market.

A sixth-round pick with the Jacksonville Jaguars in the 2019 NFL draft, Minshew is thought to be one of the best bridge options available on the market.
Though he hasn’t been a regular starter since the middle of the 2020 season, Minshew always seems to step up when called upon. The most recent evidence of that was when Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts was ruled out for a big Week 16 matchup against the Dallas Cowboys due to a shoulder sprain in 2022.
Though the Eagles lost the game, Minshew provided fireworks in Shane Steichen’s system. He threw for 355 yards, two touchdowns and two interceptions in the 40-34 loss.
Minshew seems to be the ideal candidate as a backup. From his past two years of experience working with Steichen and his gravitating nature in the locker room wherever he goes, the pairing makes a lot of sense.
