Report: Colts’ Anthony Richardson could miss a month or more because of AC sprain

Indianapolis Colts rookie quarterback Anthony Richardson received an initial diagnosis of a Grade 3 AC joint sprain in his throwing shoulder, according to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network.

Richardson is having an MRI on Monday morning. If it confirms the severity of the sprain, the rookie could miss at least a month.

This a pretty disheartening development for the 21-year-old, who has shown plenty of promise through the first month of the season. The biggest issue thus far hasn’t been his play on the field. It has been staying on the field.

A Grade 3 AC joint sprain would give Richardson the chance to return later in the season, but it will be a lengthy recovery.

It should be noted that Stephen Holder of ESPN reported that the team hasn’t received an official diagnosis yet and that the MRI will confirm the severity of the injury.

Regardless, this injury appears to be ominous in terms of keeping the rookie off the field for a while.

Head coach Shane Steichen is scheduled to meet with the media Monday, which is likely when we’ll get an updateundefined.
