The Kansas City Chiefs have officially reviewed their past to help them achieve their future goal of being three-peat Super Bowl champions.
According to a report from ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the Chiefs will sign running back Kareem Hunt to the practice squad. Hunt is entering his eighth season in the NFL, having spent the last five seasons with the Cleveland Browns.
The 29-year-old notably started his career in Kansas City, playing two seasons under head coach Andy Reid and the defending Super Bowl champions before being released due to off-the-field issues.
Hunt’s immediate practice squad designation is a good start for him to get reacclimated into the system. He played briefly with starting quarterback Patrick Mahomes before his 2018 departure.
At Monday’s Zoom press conference, Reid hinted that general manager Brett Veach had quickly adjusted the roster to accommodate a running back after Isiah Pacheco’s injury. The news of Hunt visiting on Tuesday was an early indication of a potential move.
Hunt finished the 2023 season with 135 carries for 411 yards and nine touchdowns in 15 games, starting two. He earned All-Rookie and Pro Bowl honors in the 2017 season, with the Chiefs winning the rushing title with 1,327 yards.
